Effective run coaching requires more than simply prescribing mileage. This course equips rehabilitation and performance professionals with an evidence-based framework for training plan design, load management, and injury prevention in runners. Participants will learn how to move beyond mileage-based monitoring, apply the acute:chronic workload ratio (ACWR) to guide safe progression, and optimize interval programming for both performance and tissue health. The course also explores how terrain influences running demands and how progressive running drills can be strategically integrated to support return-to-run programs. Clinicians and coaches will leave with practical tools to design individualized training plans that enhance performance while minimizing injury risk.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
-
Differentiate between mileage-based monitoring and evidence-based load management strategies, including the application of the ACWR.
-
Design interval training programs that optimize performance while reducing injury risk in recreational and competitive runners.
-
Evaluate the biomechanical and physiological demands of different running terrains and apply this knowledge in training and rehab planning.
-
Integrate progressive running drills into return-to-run programs to improve mechanics, loading capacity, and confidence.
-
Develop individualized training plans that balance load progression, recovery, and performance goals for runners across levels.
